Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 2nd, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit summons us to this holy place today to be strengthened at a font of healing, forgiveness, and love. We open our eyes to the presence of God within those around us. We open our ears to hear sacred words of comfort and assurance. We open our hearts to receive the kind of love that we can find nowhere else. For these great gifts we lift heart and voice in praise and thanksgiving.
The images of healing presented in today's Gospel remind us of the power of God's love to restore us to life when sickness and death surround us. Let our hearts be filled with praise as we listen to these remarkable stories of transformation. Let us pray that we, too, will be transformed by these saving words.

Stewardship:
2 Corinthians 6-9
"Remember that the person who plants few seeds will have a small crop; the one who plants many seeds will have a large crop. You should each give then, as you have decided, not with regret or our of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly. GOd is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause. As the scripture says, "He gives generously to the needy; his kindness last forever."

Creator God,
At Baptism, we accepted the call to follow Jesus.
Be with us as we move along on
our faith journey.
Send us your Holy Spirit,
that we might have wisdom
for the journey.
Help us to develop and share
our gifts as good stewards,
that we may use them in love and service in your
Kingdom.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

AMEN.

The St. Xavier's Lunchroom is now taking applications for a cook and other lunchroom help. For more information, please call the school at 238-2841 or the parish office 238-2998.

Religious Education

We are hoping that you are having a great summer; but just in case you are thinking about the coming Fall, we need to mention a big change to our program. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. The reason for this change is to reserve Sunday as a "Family Day" with Mass celebrated with the family. Teacher and aides are needed!
Please continue checking the bulletin for registration dates in August.

God's blessing on all,
Kurt and Sandy Leister

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 25th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

The love of Christ draws us together today as we embark on a long journey through the Sundays of Ordinary Time. This journey begins today in a boat that is being tossed by stormy seas. The Lord Jesus calms those seas and calls us to greater faith. Let us begin this Mass with our eyes fixed firmly on the Lord in whom we put our faith.
We profess that God's word is living and active. It can change our hearts. Even when the seas of life churn and become stormy, God's word is a beacon leading us to calmer waters. Let us be attentive to God's saving word.

Father Al,
35 Years of Service

We would like to congratulate Father Al for his 35 years of serving God's people as a priest. We have been blessed to have him as our pastor at St. Xavier.
He has served our parish twice, once from 1973-1975 and again from 1997 to the present. We ask God to richly bless him as he continues to follow his calling as Christ's Representative.

We extend our sympathy & prayers to the families of David Junghans, Aaron Boyer, and Wilma Rowland. May they rest in the loving arms of their God for all eternity.

PRAYER AND ACTION
Coming to our parish soon is a diocesan youth work force that is on a mission of "PRAYER AND ACTION"! The group wants to serve the community by doing minor repairs, yard work, painting, etc for citizens in the greater Junction City area to include Milford, Wakefield, Chapman and White City. Preference will be given to those who are elderly, disabled or have a low income. The supplies, to include paint will be free of charge. The work force is made of senior high school youth under close adult supervision. There are two teams: one will be available to work from July 10-13 and the other from July 17-20. Please call 785-210-5006 or 210-7713 and ask for Kurt or Sandy or email us at kurtandsandy@earthlink.com. We need your name, address, number at which you can be contacted, and what help you need as soon as possible so we can order the supplies and plan our schedule.

The youth group will not only be working in the community but will be joining our parish for morning Mass and participating in prayer and group activities. If some of our senior high youth are interested and haven't signed up already, they may contact Sister Barbara Ellen at (785)927-8746 or bafbcs@salinadiocese.org
Please pray for the success of this mission.

We want to thank those of you who expressed interest in holding a summer Vaction Bible School at our parish, but there were not enough adults and children who could participate to make the the program workable. Hopefully next year we can start planning early and launch a successful program that will involve people of all ages and draw us closer as a community. This would fulfill two of the goals that people expressed in the Disciples in Mission survey -- more community events and outreach events to the youth.
Thanks, Kurt and Sandy Leistner.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
June 18th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

The Holy Spirit brings us together today to give praise and honor to Jesus Christ, whose body and blood we share each week at the Eucharistic table. We come to this holy place hungering for Gog's word and God's presence. As this holy Mass begins, let us be aware that we, too, are Christ's body. Today, then, is a celebrations about the Eucharist and about us, the Body of Christ.

Today's Gospel tells the story of the preparation of the place where Jesus and his disciples were to eat the Last Supper. During the meal, the new covenant in Christ's blood was established as an everlasting covenant that we celbrate to this day. As today's Gospel is proclaimed, let us remember that is is at the table of the Eucharist that we can truly be transformed. Here at this table we taste newness of life.

Pentecost

Pentecost
June 4th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Welcome back, sorry about skipping last week, my computer system was down and my work schedule was hectic. The current vital infomation is included with this one.
Now, back on track.

The Holy Spirit draws us together in overwhelming gladness on this sacred day of days. More than ninty days ago, on Ash Wednesday, we began our journey of conversion from darkness to light, from winter to spring, from death to new life. Today, on the day of Pentecost, the journey is completed. Filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we celebrate this Mass longing to taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Our fifty-day celebration of Easter culminates on this day when we remember with vigor the inrushing of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. As we listen to the words of scripture today, let us open our hearts to a renewal within ourselves and within the entire Church. Let us pray that the Spirit will take hold in us and strengthens us on our mission to bring food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless, and justice to those who are oppressed.

Veni Sancte Spiritus.

Come Holy Spirit.
