Fourth Sunday of Easter

Fourth Sunday of Easter
April 29th, 2007

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

God gathers us together on this sacred day as a shepard gathers the sheep. Let us listen to the voice of the Good Shepard as we lift our hearts in prayer and song on this day of joy and gladness.
Each year on this Fourth Sunday of Easter we focus on the image of Jesus the Good Shepard. As member of this holy flock we open our ears to listen to his voice in the sacred word proclaimed this day.

MAY FRIENDSHIP DAY

All women of the parish are invited to join in prayer at 11:30 am, on Friday, Ma 11 at the 1st United Methodist Church, at 804 N. Jefferson for May Friendship Day. May Friendship Day unites Christian Women in a common worship experience building and strengthening friendly relationships within our community. This year's theme encourages us to dialogue about the things that will create compassionate and peaceful friendsips with voiceless and faceless sisters in our city, community, and the world. An overwhelming number of households headed by women still live in poverty. Our concern is for the empowerment of women and children who fall through the cracks of an unfair system. Sponsored by Church Women United, this annual ecumenical event is an opportunity to worship together and show our support for a just, peaceful and caring world. This servie will include a salad luncheon and the Least Coin collection, so please bring a salad to share and coins for the offering.

Third Sunday of Easter

Third Sunday of Easter
April 22nd, 2007

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Sisters and brothers in the risen Christ, the Holy Spirit has summoned us to gather in Christ's name to praise the Lord for rescuing us from the darkness of sin. Bathed in the glory of Easter light, we lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving.

In today's Gospel, we witness one of the Lord's post-Resurrection appearances. Jesus prepares breakfast for his disciples. Peter, who had betrayed Jesus a few days earlier, is invited to eat the fish Jesus has prepared. Just as Peter had denied Jesus three times, so today he professes his love for Jesus three times. Let us see in this simple seaside meal the expression of reconciliation that today's Eucharist offers to all who believe.

We welcome to our faith community all Fort Riley soldiers and their families. May God's blessings be with you as you serve our country. You are special to each of us.

Easter Sunday 07

Easter Sunday
April 8th, 2007

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Brothers and sisters in the risen Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit fills this holy place with the joy of Christ's resurrection. This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us celebrate this Mass with renewed faith and hope in the power of Christ to be the light of the world -- a light that scatters the darkness of sin and death. Let ours be a song of praise and thanksgiving on this festive Easter Day.

Today we follow Mary of Magdala, Peter, and John to the tomb where we find the stone rolled away. Sharing their amazement, we find that the tomb is empty. The empty tomb stands as an everlasting sign of hope -- hope for a world free from fear, free from sin, free from death. As God's word is proclaimed, let us be filled with joy and gladness on this Easter Day.

RICE BOWL

Easter Sunday -- The Resurrection

The mystery of the empty tomb stands before us. We experience the new life of Christ. We see: a village that has been suffering now has clean drinking water, a fish farm provides as family with adequate food, parents have an income so their children can go to school, and children have access to medical care to help prevent sickness and disease. Our lives are touched by people who we will never see, but who exist together with us in the love of Christ at home and faraway lands. Thank you for your generosity to Operation Rice Bowl this Lent. Please visit www.crs.org to learn more about the countries we celebrated and find out how you can stay connected with the mission of Catholic Relief Services all year round.

In Deepest Sympathy
We remember in our prayers Cathern LaHolt, her family and friends. Cathern died on March 30th. May she rest in peace.

BAPTISM -- We welcome to the Christian Community Garett Preston Corbett and Cody Matthew Sharp who were baptized last weekend. May the love of God be with you and your families.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday
April 1st, 2007

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Dear friends, our Lenten journey of conversion has led us to the holy city of Jerusalem. In commemoration of the Lord's entry into Jerusalem, we carry palm branches and raise our "Hosannas" to God. We remember Christ's passion, death, and resurrection - acts that accomplished salvation for all of us. As we lift up our palm branches and raise our cries of praise, let us pray that we will taste once again the very salvation of God.

Let us prepare ourselves to feast at the table of God's word. The story of Christ's passion and death hass drawn countless billions to declare their belief that Jesus is the Son of God. As the Lord forgives the repentant thief, let us ask for the same outpouring of mercy. Let us be open to the wonders of the power of Christ's death - a power that brings new life to those who have lost hope, a home to the lost, and healing to all who suffer.

We welcome to the Christian Community those recently baptized, Ella Rose Cavanaugh, Miah Rese Terlate, Jacob Tyler Vercher, Taylor Rose Gustafson, and Kiarra Isabella Hazelton. May God's blessings be with you and your families for all times.
