The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
December 31st, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Sisters and brothers, today's second reading summons us to love one another as the Lord Jesus commands us. As God's holy family, united in that love, we gather to celebrate this feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Let us lift our hearts, praying that the familial bond uniteing us will be strengtheded.

Like Samuel, son of Hannah, we have been dedicated to the Lord and have become God's beloved children. The Letter of John tells God's children just how to act:   we must love one another as we have been commanded. Let us pray that the word of God proclaimed this day will inspire us to reach out in love to all of God's family members who seek comfort and assurance in time of need.

In this Christmas Season and throughout the year, we wish God's blessings on all of you, your families near and far. Let all hearts rejoice in the wonder of HIS Presence and LOVE. Let us continue to share the many blessing given freely to us by our Savior.

STEWARDSHIP
An opportunity of a lifetime to make the gift of a lifetime. The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows taxpayers to make charitable donations up to $100,000 directly from an IRA account without penalty. This money will not be included in taxable income and therefore will not be taxed, preserving the full amount for charitable purposes. The new law covers gifts made in 2006 and 2007 only, unless Congress extends it. Thanks to years of saving and favorable investment returns, many people may have more money in their IRA accounts than they will need. May hard-working individuals, who have diligently saved for their children and grandchildren, are shocked to learn of the additional estate tax consequences their beneficiaries may have to incur.
If you are interested in establishing a tax-free/penalty free permanent legacy for the good of St. Francis Xavier Church or St. Xavier School, please talk with your accountant or financial planner.

Year End Contribution Statements
For parishioners who need their end of the year contribution statements for tax preparation, please call the Parish Office at 238-2998.

On January 1st we celebrate the Feast of Mary the Mother - the "Theotokos" (God Bearer), We also celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Peace. How fitting that both are celebrated together, since we continually ask Mary to intercede for Peace in the World.
What a wonderful way to begin our New Year by coming together to celebrate the Eucharist and to rededicate ourselves as Christ-bearers and peace-makers.
The staff of St. Xavier Parish will remember you all in our prayers on New Year's Day. We ask God's special blessings for you in the New Year. We pray in Thanksgiving for ways in which each of you have been Christ-bearers and peace-makers and ask that God gives you the courage to continue these works.

Third Sunday of Advent

Third Sunday of Advent
December 17th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Sisters and brothers, today the words of our responsorial psalm set the tone for this liturgy:
"Cry out with joy and gladness: for among you is the great and Holy One of Israel."
Recognizing that the Lord Jesus is present in our midst, we begin this holy Mass with joyful hearts. We eagerly await the great festival of Christmas, soon to dawn upon the world in all its splendor.

Today John the Baptist reminds his followers that the nearness of the Lord should be marked by a sharing of food and clothing with the poor. This kind of behavior characterized those who wait in joyful hope for the coming of the Lord. This is true joy: helping those who are most in need. Let today's holy word inspire us to be a people filled with Christian joy.

Sisters and brothers, gathered together in the splendor of God's glory, we continue our sojourn through this holy season of Advent. Today John the Baptist announces the coming of the Lord. As we begin this liturgy, let us heed his words:
"Prepare the way of the Lord."
The words of the prophet Baruch, a wondrous inspiration to the people of Israel, are proclaimed this day to bring us hope in a world scarred by war, terrorism, and violence to the human person. As these words resound in this holy place, let us ask God to wrap us in a cloak of justice and peace until the day of the Lord Jesus.
