Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 21st, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit gathers us together on this Lord's Day to be fed at the table of the Word and Eucharist. Saint Paul tells us that if one part of the Body of Christ suffers, all the parts suffer with it. This is a day to rejoice in the fact that we are part of one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. As members of that Church we are united with all who put their trust in the Lord Jesus. As we prepare to celebrate today's Mass, let us be mindful of those members of the Body of Christ around the world who suffer.

Today we hear about the unrolling of two scrolls. For the Israelites, the scroll that contained the Law of the Lord was unrolled and read and the people bowed down in sadness as they cane to realize that they had not lived lives in accordance with God's Law. In today's Gospel Jesus opens the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, announcing that its prophecy has been fulfilled in him. As the sacred word is proclaimed today -- as our scroll that is our scripture is unrolled -- let us welcome words that call us to greater union with Christ Jesus.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 14th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Sisters and brothers, gathered together through the power of the Holy Spirit, today we hear the familiar story of the wedding feast at Cana, the first of the miracles of the Lord Jesus. Each week we witness a miracle in the holy place when bread and wine are changed into Christ's body and blood. Let us praise God for this miracle that continually transforms us into God's holy people.
The three Gospel stories the Church celebrates as "epiphanies" are the visit of the magi to the newborn Jesus, the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, and the wedding feast at Cana. As we gather around the Lord at the wedding feast, let us pray that we will be transformed more and more into the image of Christ, manifesting his presence to those we meet.

Many women who have abortions want to say "yes" to the life in their womb, but the people around them - the counselors they consult, the boyfriends, husbands, parents, many doctors and the culture - all point to "saving the woman" through abortion. If you are one of these women or men who has paricipated in an abortion decision, you can say "yes" now -- "yes" to the forgiveness, the love and the mercy of Jesus.
Find out how much He loves you.

The Epiphany of the Lord

The Epiphany of the Lord
January 7th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Sisters and brothers, on this feast of Epiphany the magi come from afar to adore the Christ child. Like them, we have journeyed to this sacred place to witness the manifestation of Christ in word and sacrament. with Christmas joy we lift up our hearts and voices in worship and praise.

Even in the darkness of war and terrorism, today's scriptures shine forth as a beacon of light and peace. As these holy words are proclaimed, let us ask God to shine the light of peace upon lands and people who daily live in fear.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped with our Christmas Celebrations. The Arts and Environment, Musicians, Eucharistic Ministers and Parishioners attending Masses on al days including January 1st, the Feast of Mary the Mother of Goda and World day of Peace.

A heartfelt thank you to all for your generosity and kindness to us over the days of Christmas and New Year. May God's blessings be with you always.

A very special thanks to those donating to the ongoing Food Pantry Ministry and Aluminum Cans. These two projects provide food for the needy and helps the environment by recycling. Keep up the good work and God bless you for your thoughtfulness.
