The Second Sunday of Advent

Second Sunday of Advent
December 10th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Sisters and brothers, gathered together in the splendor of God's glory, we continue our sojourn through this holy season of Advent. Today John the Baptist announces the coming of the Lord. As we begin this liturgy, let us heed his words:
"Prepare the way of the Lord."
The words of the prophet Baruch, a wondrous inspiration to the people of Israel, are proclaimed this day to bring us hope in a world scarred by war, terrorism, and violence to the human person. As these words resound in this holy place, let us ask God to wrap us in a cloak of justice and peace until the day of the Lord Jesus.

In Deepest Sympathy
We extend our sympathy and prayers to the family of Nichole Sanchez who was buried last week. May she rest in the loving arms of her Creator.

A MIGHTY BIG THANK YOU

Our thanks to the Knights of Columbus for providing the parish with 2007 Calendars. Please pick them us at the entrance of the church (one per family) then you may have extras after everyone gets a chance to have one. The Knights bill was over $1,000.00. Take time to thank a Knight.

ADVENT BOOKS
Have you picked up and read your Advent Meditation Books? The daily thought-provoking meditations are excellent and down to earth. Don't be left out! Thank you Knights.

It is time once again for the Nursing Home Christmas Tree! The tree will be in the foyer of the church. The tags on the tree have the needs and wants of the residents. Please take a tag, purchase and wrap the gift and return by December 15. The tags have the name of the nursing home and name or number of the resident. Please make sure this information is on the gift. Thanks to Chris Davis and her religion classes for their help. If you have questions, please contact Sue Todd, 238-2741. Thank you!

PARISH CHRISTMAS TREE

This weekend our parish tree is placed in the sanctuary. All families are encouraged to place an ornament on the tree with their name on it. Take time to view the great diversity within our parish. This is the 9th Christmas Season. Past and present ornaments will remain on the tree from year to year.

Religious Education

We will be focusing on the Marian feast days that occur during Advent. For our December 20th class, we will have a baby shower for Jesus. This will be our service project. Parents are asked to send a wrapped baby gift appropriate for newborns through 3 year olds. These gift items can be "gently used."
Thank you for helping. If you need to register your children, please call Kurt or Sandy at 210-5006 or 210-7713.
