Twenty-Third Sunday In Ordinary TIme

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 10th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

Once again the Holy Spirit has drawn us together to give praise and thanks to our God. God opens our ears to hear the sacred word and our mouths to proclaim the good news contained in those words. As we begin Mass, let us be conscious of God's healing power, made present in this holy place in word and sacrament.

Today's scriptures are rich with messages for each of us. We are told to be strong and to fear not. We are summoned to show no partiality to those whom we encounter in our daily life. Today's Gospel reminds us that, at the time we were baptized, our ears were opened to listen to God's word. We were also enabled to proclaim that saving word to others. Let us open our ears now to hear words that challenge, encourage, and heal.

We congratulate David Hernandez & Natasha Heard who were married last Saturday. May your love for each other & God grow stronger each day.

We extend our prayers & sympathy to the family of Chuck Cimino who passed away on the 28th of August. May the loving Creator welcome him to Eternal Glory.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Come, Holy Spirit of Love and Peace, we long for you healing touch. On September 11, 2001 our country was scarred by hatred and revenge.. we long for you healing touch. Hearts were broken and lives were lost, and fear and anger prevailed... we long for you healing touch. Awaken in us, Holy Spirit, a deep and respectful remberance... that you are a God of love, not hatred, that you are a God of forgiveness, not revenge, that you are a God of peace, not war. Remebering these things, we ask you to bless our countr and all those defending its ideals of freedom and liberty and bring them safely home. May your gifts of peace, love and forgiveness transform our hatred, anger, and fear, so that peace on earth will be possible once again. Come Holy Spirit of Love and Peace, we long for your healing touch.
