Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
August 13th, 2006

St. Xavier Parish Home Page

The Holy Spirit gathers us together today to be nourished by the celebration of the Word and the Eucharist. Like Elijah, we often tire on our journey and cry out, "this is enough, O Lord!" Today God's word strengthens us and has the power to sustain us on our journey of faith. God's word is not our only source of strength, for today we also hear that Jesus is the very bread of life. Let us rejoice and be glad, for those who eat this bread will live forever.
In today's first reading an angel of the Lord comes to the aid of Elijah, providing him with bread and water. Elija is strengthened for this continuing journey. The Lord Jesus, in today's Gospel, refers to himself as the bread of life. As we open or hearts to hear God's word, let us pray that, through the word and the Eucharist, we will be strengthened for our own journey of faith.

We extend our sympathy & prayer to the family of Tom Goudey, who recently passed away. May God welcome him to eternal life.
We welcome to the Christian Community Sara Kim Rexrode, child of Timothy and Natalie. Sara was baptized on the 5th of August. May God's blessing be with all of you.
