Twenty-Second Sunday In Ordinary Time
Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 3rd, 2006
St. Xavier Parish Home Page
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we have been gathered together to lisen once again to the sacred word that brings life. What a wonderful gift celecrated in our midst. We humbly welcome the very life of God made present in this holy place. Let us honor the Lord our God as we begin this celebration of praise and thanksgiving.
Today's scriptures call us to conversion of heart. Echoing the words of Isaiah, the Lord Jesus summons us to avoid honoring God soley with our lips. We need to honor God with our hearts as well. Saint James tells precisely how to do that in today's second reading. We are to become, in his word, doers of the word. As the sacred word is proclaimed, let us askfor strength to honor God with our whole hearts by becoming doers of the word.
St. Thomas More Parish in Manhattan is hosting John Michael Talbot in concert on Monday, Oct. 23, at 7 pm, Talbot is one of the top-selling Catholic musicians in the world and does a limited number of concerts each year. Tom Booth, who has been nominated for several Grammy Awards and Terry Talbot will also perform. Proceeds from the concert go to two local charities - Shepard's Crossing and the Flint Hills Community Clinic. Tickets are $25 and are available from www.itickets.com or by calling the STM office at (785)776-5151.
From the Desk of the Grand Knight
Plan to attend the September 5th meeting at 7:00 pm at the K of C Hall and participate in Rick's new 50/50 drawing.
MASS AND PARISH PICNIC BY THE LAKE
St. Xavier Parish will celebrate a Sunday Mass at Milford Lake in addition to the regularly scheduled Masses at Church. Let us all join together and celebrate two great feasts together on this, the Mass and a Parish Family Meal.
Please bring your favorite potluck dish and lawn chairs! The shelter is easily accessible since the area is level and you can practically drive up to the shelter. The area also has a playground, horseshoe pit, and volleyball net for family and children fun and games.
Look for flyers on this event and, please, all of you, pray for good weather on this day.
We congratulate Robbie Obermuller & Kelly Schmidt who were married last Saturday. May your love continue to grow all your days.
We welcome to the Christian Family Braden Ray Litzinger, child of Mindy & Adam. Braden was baptized last Sunday. May God's blessing be with all of you.
